10 Quick Exercises to Help You Recover Good Posture

Happy Labor Day!  

I hope you are all able to rest up and enjoy everything this wonderful paid day off has to offer.  I'm making some healthy Paleo sweet potato mash this morning, then heading off to a noon hour workout and hanging out with my friends at  CrossFit 5885 to enjoy some great food and fellowship.

For me, Labor Day always feels more like New Years Day.  There's something about the start of September that makes my brain think it's the real start to a new year, so I'm going to stick with it!

The start of a new year, or new season is always a great time to reflect and re-evaluate your personal goals.  After re-evaluating where I am currently and where I'd like to be, I'm implementing a lot of changes to my work, life and family schedule.  I hope the change of the season prompts you to do so as well.  

That said, if you could use some motivation and a fresh breath of air in your current corrective exercise and posture alignment exercises, I've put together a new set for you to add-in and change things up!  Remember, "nothing changes if nothing changes", and the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. 

Human beings are stimulus response mechanisms that have a fantastic ability to adapt to whatever is placed in front of it repeatedly.  This applies to all forms of stress applied to the body.  If you've been doing the same set of corrective exercises over and over for a long time without changing things up, it's time for something new!

Please remember that these corrective exercise in no way take the place of one that is written for you specifically.  If something isn't "quite right" within your body, listen to that inner voice.  It in no way means give up, it simply means you may be in need of some guidance and coaching.  That's where a Certified Corrective Exercise Specialist can help.

You'll recover better posture from doing them, and as a bonus, feel a reduction in chronic muscle and joint pain due to imbalances in your system.

10 Quick Corrective Exercises to Recover Your Posture

  1. Static Back (5 minutes or more if needed)
  2. Static Back Pull-overs (3 x  - 10 repetitions)
  3. Static Back Snow Angels (10 x All the way up and down = 1 repetition)
  4. Supine with Bent Knees Abductor Presses (3 x - 15 repetitions)
  5. Frog (1 minute)
  6. Hip Crossover Stretch with Palms Down (1 minute/side)
  7. Passive Pelvic Tilts (10 x Forward and back = one repetition)
  8. Cats & Dogs (15 x Flexion & Extension = one repetition)
  9. Counter Stretch (60 - 90 seconds)
  10. Gravity Drop or Wall Drop (2-3 minutes)
