Happy Friday! Thought I'd share a little YouTube video tutorial I put together of SMR (Self-Myofascial Release) for the inner thigh (adductor) muscles.
When you have muscle imbalances and joint dysfunctions, your connective tissue dehydrates. The primary reason we ADD SMR to a corrective exercise programming sequence is to re-hydrate the connective tissue to help resotre pliability and resiliency.
If you were to examine dehydrated connective tissue under the microscope, dehydrated connective tissue is "fuzzy", sticky or glued-down in nature, which creates adhesions and further movement dysfunction and pain.
By placing pressure directly on muscle and connective tissue you are stimulating the golgi tendon organ to relax tension in the soft tissue. Reducing soft-tissue tension you decrease pain, break down scar tissue and adhesions, restores normal muscle length-tension relationships, increase joint mobility and improves overall function. It's the PERFECT compliment to a corrective exercise program and a foundational part of The BioMechanics Method of Chronic Pain Relief!
I've written about the topic a few times, and to Learn More See:
OK, so back to the Inner Thigh, the Adductor Muscles and using SMR to release the area.
Before you begin, keep in mind that hydration is important! One of the many benefits of myofascial release is that it helps hydrate your myofascial tissue. However, most people are chronically dehydrated at the best of times. Purpose to drink 10 to 20 ounces of water before you begin a SMR session. It will help prep the body for the work.
And I highly encourage you to drink the same amount after as breaking down adhesions and scar tissue is effectively eliminating waste from your system. Water will help flush it out and keep you from feeling ill afterward.
I hope you enjoyed the video. If you liked it, please share! And more importantly, let us know how it went for you! What you noticed before and after, and what we can do to help you! Remember, we're in this together, and I am here to help!
