Our bodies communicate to us clearly and specifically, if we are willing to listen to them.
- Shakti Gawain
I came across a website called For Wellness Natural Services. There's a tab on their site that spoke volumes to me and I felt compelled to share it with you. It's called, Body Talk. In fact, please take the time to visit the page and check out the photo graphic as it is absolutely excellent!
Body Talk is based on this very simple yet profound statement.
“What would your body say to you if it could talk?”
I love that! It sure lines right up with our mission, core values and founding principles of alleviating chronic pain. Here at Pain Free Posture MN we believe that your body has an innate ability to heal itself under the right conditions. When all the parts and systems of the body communicate with each other, healing happens naturally.
But maybe your're in chronic pain and the idea seems crazy to you. All you know is pain, and you've been desperately trying to run from it for days, weeks, months or years!
Instead of running away from the pain or trying to mask your symptoms, have you ever STOPPED to ask yourself what the pain was telling you?
And more importantly, are you listening?
Stopping to ask yourself what the pain is telling you might be a completely new concept, particularly if you've been running around in the chronic pain cycle. Putting Body Talk into practice is the first step in overcoming chronic musculoskeletal pain.
I can attest and validate that the human body can heal from chronic musculoskeletal pain when in the hands of a thoroughly trained specialist.
Personally, I'm blessed to see it happen on a daily basis! (see our Testimonials page)
The body does indeed talk, although I find that by the time you are in chronic pain, many of the signals your body has been speaking to you have been missed or outright ignored you're trapped in the chronic pain cycle.
As a corrective exercise specialist I believe, practice and most importantly teach my clients about the 8 Laws of Physical Health.
When a person adheres to the 8 Laws of Physical Health, meaning we actively put them into practice on a daily basis and work to create balance and order in our lives in mind, body and spirit, the body can and does heal.
The Body Talk page states:
“Your body is designed to heal itself.
When all the parts and systems of the body communicate with each other, healing happens naturally.”
“When the body talks to itself, it can heal itself. Healing really can be that simple.”
I also believe that in addition to practicing Body Talk, we must be proactive and give the body the stimulus and demand it needs (posture alignment therapy, restorative Pilates), and changes in diet, nutrition and emotional wellness fill the other areas.
If you are in chronic physical pain, perhaps it's time to stop masking the pain and deliberatly quiet yourself and ask, "What is the Pain telling me"?
Then take the next most important step, DO SOMETHING different to break the cycle!
5 Steps to Help You Listen and Connect to Your Body Talk
Are you ready to listen? Great! Here's an easy way to start listening. Try the following:
- Find a comfortable place in an area that is soothing and free of distraction where you can stand, sit or lay down quietly. I encourage you to get into a Static Back position if you can.
- Stay there for a few minutes without fidgeting.
- Give yourself the opportunity to ask the question “What is my body saying”, but then truly allow yourself to listen and trust what what your body is telling you.
- Make a note or write down what you are feeling without making a judgment value on it.
- Make an action plan to change your mind, actions and habits to reverse the damage. You can't keep repeating the same thoughts, actions and habits.... change is required.
I LOVE it and couldn’t agree more!
