Unchain Yourself from Chronic Pain

Today I'd like to talk about mindset and the connection to chronic pain relief.

Often by the time my average client arrives, he/she has done it all trying to break the chains of chronic pain:

  • Chiropractic
  • rest, inactivity, avoiding motion
  • heat, ice, massage
  • special workouts (pilates, yoga, gyrotonic, tai chi)
  • personal training
  • cortisone injectionss, prolotherapy, rounds of physical therapy
  • even surgery (laminectomy, facet blocks, joint replacements)  

 

Problem is, if the ROOT CAUSE of the pain is not addressed it's only a matter of time until the symptom returns and the vicious cycle continues. 

 

Clients come to work with me here at Pain Free Posture MN looking for a natural alternative, a way to resolve their musculoskeletal pain without medication, manipulation or any more surgery.   And that's exactly what we offer here.  My clients entrust their care into my hands, and I in turn educate and empower them to take back control of their health.  

 

For the most part, everyone gets better!

But ....

it requires it takes a commitment to TOTAL CHANGE and that means YOU have to work.

It's a process, not a quick fix.  

 

One of the first questions I ask a client when they arrive at my studio is:

"What do you believe about your condition/pain"?

 

It's such an important question to ask, because MINDSET is everything when it comes to breaking the chains of chronic pain.

 

When clients first come into to see me in my studio, I'm keenly interested in isolating and identifying the root cause of you pain.  But more importantly, I believe that You are more than just a body.  


That means that you as a whole, in mind, body and spirit must tackle the pain problem from every aspect. Your thoughts, beliefs and actions also affect your pain/condition.   Corrective exercise programming works because we help our clients make a total CHANGE.

 

Not just physically by elimintaing the pain, but also changing everything that got them to our studio in the first place.  

 

Mindset and The Connection to Chronic Pain Relief

Their MINDS, ACTIONS and HABITS in reference to their pain. 

Do you want to be an elephant forever chained to your pain?  There's a popular image and story out there on the internet which states:

 

"As my friend was passing the elephants, he suddenly stopped, confused by the fact that these huge creatures were being held by only a small rope tied to their front leg. No chains, no cages. It was obvious that the elephants could, at anytime, break away from the ropes they were tied to but for some reason, they did not. My friend saw a trainer nearby and asked why these beautiful, magnificent animals just stood there and made no attempt to get away.

"Well," he said, "when they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and, at that age, it's enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free." My friend was amazed. These animals could at any time break free from their bonds but because they believed they couldn't, they were stuck right where they were.

Like the elephants, how many of us go through life hanging onto a belief that we cannot do something, simply because we failed at it once before? So make an attempt to grow further.... Why shouldn't we try it again?

Your attempt may fail, but never fail to make an attempt & CHOOSE not to accept the false boundaries and limitations created by the past.."  (It's Called Mindset - author unknown)

Chronic pain is just like the imaginary chain around the elephants ankle.  When you've had a history of pain, it becomes your "story" and impacts your actions and habits, your reason for doing or not doing things in life.  

The elephant doesn't try to leave because of a false idea.  

He believes he can't.

 

How many false ideas about your pain/condition have you or other people implemented into your head? Have you ever stopped to ask yourself, "Is it true?"  Why do you think that?  Are you sure you can't get better.  Why?

Very often the chains that bind us from achieving a pain free life and living are shackled to our mindset.  I've seen it thousands of times.

 

It's definitely interesting and thought provoking.  I know I can honestly say I've chained myself to preconvieced thoughts, actions and habits in the past, and still do it to this day.  But not as much, and I've definitely become empowered by understanding that everyday I get to choose.  

 

Everyday through the power of social media, I see amazing stories and testimonials of people who have serious physical challenges in life.  They overcome.  What makes my issue any different?
